The toughest part of all this "being retired" business is the question that reaches deep inside us to our core values.
The answer to the question "Who and what am I now?"
For some the answer will be simple...
For others there will still be a deep drive to "do something of real value".
It is said that "every person has a book in them". If so, why not write it?
A father who had a long and accomplished career in research would in later life declare to his son "I am a historian" (he spent much time using his "transferable skills" in research by applying them to history of all types).
On the other hand, a retired businessman attending a day retreat was asked "And John - who are you?" to which he replied "I am the director of energy generation for Australia".
Our identities might need to change in retirement. We are more than "Just retired"...!
